Moderator: Jose Antonio PhD

12:00pm (USA East Coast time) Dr. Michael Roberts - Topic: Skeletal Muscle Hypertrophy in Response to Various Load-Schemes. Dr. Roberts conducts very novel research in skeletal muscle plasticity. He will cover how weight training (i.e., volume and load) affects the adaptive response of skeletal muscle.

12:30pm (USA East Coast time) Dr. Darryn Willoughby - Topic: Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Skeletal Muscle Hypertrophy. If there is a "Dr. Hypertrophy," it would be this gentleman. In the sport sciences, Dr. Willoughby stands alone regarding his work on the cellular/molecular mechanisms of muscle growth. He will touch on the role of satellite cells as well as myogenic regulatory factors.

Michael Roberts PhD

Dr. Roberts is a faculty member at Auburn University. His laboratory conducts original investigations that focuses on: How nutrition and exercise affects the molecular environment of muscle and fat tissues (e.g., mRNA and protein expression changes as well as morphology). How aging affects the genetic architecture of skeletal muscle; and how weight-training affects intra-muscle cell adaptations.

Darryn Willoughby PhD FACSM FACN FISSN

Dr. Willoughby is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and International Society of Sport Nutrition (ISSN). Dr. Willoughby is an internationally recognized scholar and one of the top leaders in the field where his primary research focuses on the molecular mechanisms regulating muscle hypertrophy and atrophy and the effectiveness and efficacy of nutritional supplements in helping to support muscle hypertrophy, attenuate atrophy, and improve exercise and sport performance.
