12:00pm (USA East Coast time) Dr. Darren Candow - Topic: Effects of Creatine Supplementation and Resistance Training on Body Composition and Muscle Performance - Dr. Candow will provide an indepth and comprehensive summary of research involving creatine supplementation and resistance training on body composition (muscle, bone and fat mass) and muscle performance (strength, endurance). Variables which influence an individual’s responsiveness to creatine supplementation and the timing and safety of creatine supplementation will also be discussed.

12:30pm (USA East Coast time) Dr. Scott Forbes - Topic: Not Just for Muscle: the Effects of Creatine on the Brain - Dr. Forbes will discuss the emerging evidence that creatine can impact cognitive function and improve brain health. The purpose of the presentation is to highlight key mechanisms and review recent literature with a focus on sport performance. 


Darren Candow PhD CSEP-CEP

Dr. Darren Candow, PhD, CSEP-CEP, is Professor and Associate Dean-Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Health Studies. Dr. Candow supervises the Aging Muscle and Bone Health Laboratory, and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and Biogerontology. Dr. Candow has published > 100 research articles, reports and abstracts. Dr. Candow's research program involves the development of effective resistance training and nutritional intervention strategies for improving properties of aging muscle and bone health. Dr. Candow's research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF), and the Nutricia Research Foundation. 

Scott Forbest PhD CSEP-CEP

Dr. Scott Forbes’ primary interest is in sport science and has focused on various nutritional and training interventions to enhance athlete performance. In addition, he has expertise examining nutritional and exercise interventions for optimal muscle and brain health in older adults. He has worked as a personal trainer as well as an athlete consultant for several professional and varsity level sport teams.
